Dr Benjamin Seah graduated from the University College London, United Kingdom in 2008 and was awarded the University College London-Singapore Undergraduate Scholarship.
During his undergraduate years, he dedicated a year towards research at the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, United Kingdom, graduating at the top of his class with First Class Honours in Orthopaedic Sciences (Bachelor of Science) in 2005.
He obtained his postgraduate Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 2011, and his Masters of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 2013. He was part of the pioneer batch of Orthopaedic Residency Trainees in Singhealth and subsequently obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2017.
In 2019, he was awarded the prestigious SKH(Singhealth) Fellowship Award to pursue an Upper Limb Orthopaedic Fellowship under Professor Gregory Ian Bain, Flinders University and Medical Centre, Adelaide Australia. During his fellowship, he was involved in managing numerous Complex Shoulder and Elbow pathologies, including and not limited to fractures, instability and joint reconstruction.
Upon his return in 2020, he was responsible for setting up the only 4D CT elbow imaging system in Sengkang Hospital and Singapore to assess complex elbow injuries and has published a research paper on the topic. As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, and Shoulder and Elbow Service Lead in SKH, he was responsible for managing all complex shoulder and elbow injuries (fractures, ligament injuries, arthroscopy, tendon transfers, joint replacements) for the hospital over the last few years.
Recently, he has also spent some time in Asan Medical Centre, South Korea, with Professor In-ho Jeon, further fine-tuning his surgical techniques in managing complex Rotator cuff injuries and tendon transfer surgery.
As an advocate of pushing boundaries to improve patient care and treatment, Dr Seah was part of the Innovation Panel of SKH, assessing new treatment and product ideas.
He was the Department Lead for the Ortho-biologics injection clinic for Upper limb/Tennis elbow pathologies, started Research on Novel treatments for Frozen shoulder, Advocated the use of a Tele-rehabilitation assistive device as an adjunct to routine physiotherapy for patients with Frozen Shoulder and was an early adopter of the use of a Bioinductive patch to augment surgical rotator cuff repairs.
In addition to clinical work, Dr Seah has always been actively involved medical education and mentoring the next generation of doctors and nurses. He was a Clinical tutor for LKC School of Medicine and YLL-NUS School of Medicine, an Assistant Clinical Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, AO Trauma ORP regional contributor for Nurses and recently, the Chair of the AO Trauma Basic Course (2022) for Surgeons.
He participated actively in the weekly teaching of medical students and has been an examiner for the YLL-NUS Orthopaedic Examinations. On the research front, he has presented at multiple conferences, both locally and internationally.
He has also published various book chapters and numerous papers in peer reviewed journals over the years.
