Dr. Huang graduated from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2007. He spent time overseas in Cambodia during his undergraduate days to do volunteer work and promote health education in the public. He has served as a house officer in the Singhealth cluster and was awarded the Singhealth Best house officer award in 2008. He subsequently obtained his postgraduate Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons(Glasgow) in 2011, his Masters of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 2013, and completed his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2018.

In 2022, he completed his fellowship training in endoscopic spine surgery under the esteemed Dr Choi Dae Jung in Himnaera Hospital, Busan, Korea. During his fellowship, he was involved in managing numerous complex spinal pathologies, including and not limited to degenerative and traumatic spinal conditions. He was responsible for setting up the award winning spinal triage and rehabilitation (STAR) clinical triage service in Sengkang General Hospital and also has published article and made podium presentations in international journal and conferences respectively on this service, bringing Sengkang General Hospital onto an international platform.

As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, and Spine Service Lead in SKH, he was also responsible for setting up the endoscopic spine surgery service for the patients in SKH. Recently, he has also spent some time in the prestigious Hopital Prive Saint Martin, Bordeaux France with Dr Remi Mariey and refining his surgical techniques in spinal disc replacement, part of the spectrum of joint preservation surgery in spine. For his clinical work, he was awarded the Singapore Quality Service Star award in 2023.

Advocacy And Contribution

Dr Huang is a believer of providing the best care for patients, and always seek to improve clinical service through change. With that mindset he set up a clinical service which include physiotherapists led Spinal Triage Clinic which allow patients to have a one stop solution for spinal condition not needing surgery, helping patients to cut cost and save time. This STAR service has since made international presence through presentations and journal article, and has won multiple quality improvement awards which include the Institute for Patient Safety & Quality IPSQ Poster Excellence Award 2024 and SKH Best Quality Improvement Projects 2024.

He was Spine Surgery Service Lead for Sengkang General Hospital and also has started the endoscopic spine surgery service in SKH after his fellowship training. His clinical practice is based on the ideology of joint preservation and minimally invasive surgery, both of which is gel into one with endoscopic spinal surgery which allow bone preservation surgery to be done with more ease. In addition to clinical work, Dr Huang has always been actively involved in medical education and mentoring the next generation of doctors. He was a Clinical tutor and education lead for LKC School of Medicine and he is also an adjunct lecturer and tutor for YLL-NUS School of Medicine. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, AO Trauma instructor and a ATLS instructor for fellow doctors.

He is also appointed a faculty for the Endoscopic Spine Academy (Espinea) an international platform for education for endoscopic spine surgery. He participated actively in the weekly teaching of medical students and has been an examiner for the YLL-NUS Orthopaedic Examinations. On the research front, he has presented at multiple conferences, both locally and internationally. He has also published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals over the years.
